📰 News we're reading

1. Proposed settlement with DTG Enterprises, Inc. for Clean Water Act violations in Washington (epa.gov) — A recycling facility in Renton faces a proposed $154,250 federal penalty and new compliance orders after alleged Clean Water Act violations affecting stormwater discharges into Springbrook Creek. Federal regulators say DTG Enterprises must upgrade pollution controls, monitoring, and maintenance at its Renton site to prevent future unauthorized wastewater discharges and better protect local waterways.

2. Green River levee breach impacts small areas of Kent, Renton and Tukwila (kentreporter.com) — Renton businesses east of SR 167 are being closely watched after a Green River levee breach in Tukwila triggered GO NOW evacuations in nearby Kent and Tukwila industrial areas. Officials say there’s no immediate impact in Renton, but a worsening breach could send up to a couple feet of water into commercial zones, so residents and workers should monitor county alerts and avoid flooded roads.

3. Seattle Suburbs Face Evacuation After Days of Heavy Rain Breach Weakened Levee (ntd.com) — Residents in parts of Renton were urged to be ready as a levee breach along the Green River triggered “go now” evacuation alerts for nearby neighborhoods and industrial areas. Officials now say flooding has so far stayed in limited industrial zones, but crews are racing to reinforce the Briscoe Desimone levee and warn that changing river levels could still bring new risks.

4. Renton boy pleads guilty to 2024 fatal shooting (rentonreporter.com) — A 17-year-old Renton resident has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for fatally shooting a 15-year-old friend at a home on Camas Avenue Northeast in 2024. Prosecutors are recommending just over eight years in prison, with sentencing set for early January, while court documents detail the emergency response by Renton police and fire crews and the teen’s prior pending firearm cases.

5. Seahawks still struggling with the run game (yakimaherald.com) — From their Renton headquarters, the Seahawks are still searching for consistency in a new outside-zone rushing scheme that has lagged despite preseason promise. Coaches and players describe what’s going wrong, how injuries may affect Thursday’s game against the Rams, and why fixing the ground attack is critical for a deep playoff run.
