RENTON, WA — Renton detectives are still working to track down the people responsible for a weekend shooting that killed a Tacoma man and left six other people in the hospital with gunshot wounds. The first 911 calls reporting a shooting came in just before 1 a.m. Saturday, prompting dozens of officers from around the region to respond to the scene outside a rental venue near South 2nd Street and Logan Avenue South.

In a news release Monday afternoon, police said detectives recovered 100 shell cases from the scene, along with four handguns and multiple gun magazines. The shooting left a 32-year-old Tacoma man dead and a half-dozen other victims in the hospital. While some victims remain hospitalized, officials said all six are expected to survive.

Police said the size of the crowd and the "hostile response that officers met with" led them to call in backup from several neighboring agencies, including the Rukwila, Kent, Auburn, Des Moines and Federal Way police departments, along with the King County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol, who helped secure the crime scene.
