MAPLE VALLEY, WA — King County animal officials are trying to track down the owner of an emaciated horse who was found outside a home near Maple Valley last Friday.

The horse, a gelding estimated to be about 20 years old, was found along Sweeney Road Southeast on Aug. 30, and animal officials say it had been starved. The horse died on Sept. 2 while it was being cared for by a veterinarian. Although the horse was found starving, veterinarians will perform a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) officials are looking for help from the public to find the owner. The horse, officials said, had distinct marks on its head and body. If you were in the area where the horse was found on Friday morning — just northwest of Cedar Lake Elementary School — contact RASKC at (206) 296-7387 or email pets@kingcounty.gov.
