Five Renton Schools Win State’s Highest Honor

Five schools in the Renton School District have won the state’s highest honor for excellence in mathematics, extending the graduation rate, according to a news release.

The schools were selected by the Office of Superintendent and Public Instruction (OSPI) as Washington Achievement Award winners using the Washington Accountability Index and criteria in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver. The award is intended to recognize schools that are closing the achievement gap and overall excellence.

This year’s winners are:

• Bryn Mawr Elementary School recognized for closing the achievement gap.
• Kennydale Elementary School recognized for high progress.
• Hazen High School recognized for overall excellence and mathematics.
• Lindbergh High School recognized for overall excellence and improving the extended graduation rate.
• Sartori Education Center recognized for improving the extended graduation rate.

A total of 381 state schools are receiving Washington Achievement Awards which are now in their fourth year, and sponsored by the OSPI and the State Board of Education.

The award-winning schools will be honored during an award ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.
