Help Renton Elementary School Kids Get To Blake Island
A Lakeridge Elementary teacher needs help funding a trip for her students to a secluded state park in Puget Sound.

RENTON, WA — Chances are, you've never been to Blake Island Marine State Park. The small island, floating between Vashon and Bainbridge, is only accessible by boat — but one Renton School District teacher is hoping to take her entire 5th grade class there for a field trip.
The trip will give Lakeridge Elementary teacher Margaret Simpson's class the chance to explore the 475-acre island, tour a Native American village, and eat a lunch of fish smoked with alder wood.
"Many of our students have never had the opportunity to ride on a boat, or experience such traditional Native American culture. Helping them to see the world as a bigger place is not only helpful to their understanding of the world, this trip helps to support their learning of the native, indigenous peoples of our area," she wrote in a fundraising appeal.
