Renton Fire And Emergency Services responded to a home fire on Sunday in the Highlands neighborhood.

Firefighters called in a second alarm after spotting “a large column of smoke” as they drove along NE 3rd, according to officials. First-responders arrived at the scene within 6 minutes of being called.

A total of 36 firefighters responded to the blaze at 185 Glennwood Pl. SE, including seven engines, two aid cars, one ladder truck, two battalion chiefs, one King County medic, MSO, Eastside Fire, Bellevue Fire and Skyway Fire.

The two residents were not home at the time of the fire; however, their dog and cat were. Neither pet survived the blaze.

The fire resulted in $225,000 in structural damage and $75,000 in property damage, according to officials.

Fire investigators have tentatively ruled the cause as an electrical fire that began in a crawl space, although officials are continuing to investigate the cause.
