Law Enforcement Runs Special Olympics Torch Through Renton

The torch run began this morning in Spokane and will end later today at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The Washington Special Olympics 2011 summer games will kick off tonight and run through June 5.

Traffic along Grady Way slowed to a runner's pace late this morning as the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run passed through Renton.

John Nowles of the Spokane County Sheriffs Office bore the torch as he ran through town flanked by half a dozen police motorcycles, cars and SUVs. A large motorhome brought up the rear.

About 2,300 athletes, 2,500 volunteers, 3,000 family and friends, and 550 coaches will participate in this year's games.
