Lowland Snow Possible Tuesday Night In Renton: Forecast

Snow is still headed to much of Western Washington, but it may not last as long as previously thought. Here's the latest from forecasters.

RENTON, WA — The moment forecasters have been previewing for more than a week is nearly here: a good chance for snow across the Puget Sound lowlands.

Earlier forecasts outlined possibilities for lowland snow this past weekend and later this week, but the weekend flurries were largely confined to parts of Whatcom County, and newer models show a second chance later in the week may fail to materialize.

However, there is still one shot for snow below 500 feet, and it's coming up quick. From Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, forecasters say much of Western Washington could see at least a few flakes.

While the snow may not stick around past Wednesday, the cold air likely will. The National Weather Service predicts lows in the low 30s overnight with daily highs in the mid-40s. Those cold temps will linger through Friday night, when warmer weather will move in and heat up the weekend a little.

Cold temps also mean icy roads, and first responders are warning everyone to take it slow during the cold snap — especially if snow is falling.

Eastern Washington has already been hit hard by the snow, which caused more than a dozen car crashes in the Tri-Cities area Monday.

Here's the 5-day weather outlook for Renton:
Tuesday: 44°/32° (Partly sunny, PM chance for rain & snow)
Wednesday: 45°/35° (AM chance for rain & snow, PM chance of rain)
Thursday: 46°/34° (Chance of rain)
Friday: 45°/36° (Cloudy, PM chance of rain)
