Monday's Power Outage Caused By Underground Circuit Failure

The fall’s cooling temperatures are a good reminder to have emergency supplies and a backup plan when the power fails.

And so are brief power outages.

Approximately 1,800 customers from Newcastle, Renton and Maple Valley lost power Monday morning around 6:30 a.m., according to a spokes person from Puget Sound Energy (PSE).

The outage was caused by a “circuit lockout, “ that was the result of an underground equipment failure, the spokes person said. 

After the ground crew located the problem, the team re-routed power to the outage area while they made repairs

PSE reported that the power was back on at about 9:30 a.m.; however, some Renton residents reported outages lasting as long as 2:30 p.m.
