Progress in Sight For Sunset Area Revitalization, Groundbreaking Set For Glenwood Townhomes

The City of Renton and RHA will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. for Glenwood Townhomes, 1147 Glenwood Avenue Northeast.

Since the late 1990s, the Sunset Area of Renton's Highlands Neighborhood has been a development priority for the City. After countless hours of meetings, two citizens' task forces, and much discussion, Renton citizens will start to see some tangible changes.

On Oct. 17 the Renton Housing Authority (RHA) and the City will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Glenwood Townhomes, "a major step in the Sunset Area Community Revitalization initiative," according to a statement from the City. Glenwood Townhomes is one of the first improvements outlined in the Sunset Area Community Investment Strategy, which was adopted by Council nearly two years ago in Nov. 2009.

The groundbreaking will take place on a vacant lot, owned by the RHA, to the north of Sunset Terrace, City Communications Director Preeti Shridhar said.

The  and the incorporation of a "third place," a garden, plaza, or other community amenities, are also part of the Sunset Area Community Investment Strategy document.
