Pup Gets A Ride In Renton's Engine 11 After Semi Versus Civic Crash

An accident over the weekend sent two people to the hospital and one dog to animal control.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services picked up an unusual passenger Sunday night while responding to an accident on southbound I-405 near the 44th Street overpass.

Most of the department's interactions deal with two-legged drivers and passengers, but Sunday's call involved a furry, four-legged rider.

The crash, involving a Honda Civic and a Semi-truck, occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on May 20 and blocked three lanes of traffic.

A private ambulance company transported two people to the hospital for minor injuries, and Renton Fire transported a dog (which had been riding in the Civic) to the Renton Animal Control offices at the City Shops located off Monroe.

The pup was uninjured in the accident and later retrieved by its owner earlier this week, according to fire officials.

The department reported a rise in motor vehicle accidents in South Puget Sound last weekend, which likely resulted from the heavy rainfall.
