Renton Couple Gets Green Home Remodel, Appear on EcoCribz
A remodel gone wrong was set right with the help of local green contractors, businesses and volunteers.
Renton homeowners Kevin and Kay Brown were in for a surprise when a supposed "green" remodel when bad.
The couple were recently highlighted in an episode of King County's "EcoCribz," a video series that explores environmentally friendly home remodeling with the use of green products and practices, and all within in a pocketbook-pleasing budget.
The EcoCribz episode, “Green Gone Brown” follows the Brown family, as they attempt to correct a home remodel gone wrong.

"Not only did their original contractor use unhealthy products and practices, but also made construction errors that led to water intrusion, structural damage and the installation of insulation that was harmful to Kay Brown, who has multiple chemical sensitivity disorder," said Patti Southard, King County GreenTools program manager.
The video shows local green builders, contractors and volunteers donated their time and knowledge to fix the issues created by the original contractor. They went one step further to worked and to improve the home’s energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

The indoor air quality was a big factor for Kay who suffers from multiple chemical sensitivity disorder.
Kay fully approved of the interior paint job by healthy Painting LLC.
"For me to say that, being the canary that I am, is quite a testimonial," she said in the short film.
The Browns have also since learned of the King County’s online Eco-Cool Remodel Tool that can be used to learn more about green remodeling products, practices and resources.
“We had a lot of knowledge about green, but we did not know how to apply that knowledge to hiring a contractor,” said homeowner Kay Brown in press release from the County. “Using the EcoCool Tool would have really benefitted us.”
