Renton Crews Rescue Person Who Ended Up In Lake Washington With Car

RENTON, WA —Crews rescued a person Tuesday morning after their car ended up in Lake Washington near Gene Coulson Park in Renton, the Renton Police Department and Renton Regional Fire Authority said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, but no details about their identity or condition were provided by authorities.
Authorities said crews responded to a report of a vehicle in the lake, which they believe entered the water at the north end of Gene Coulson Park.

At 8:30 a.m. the RPD tweeted that rescue efforts were underway by the fire department and Mercer Island Marine Patrol after a person was reported to be treading water.
KIRO reported that rescue teams reached the person in the water and brought them to shore. The victim was evaluated by medics at the scene before being taken to the hospital, according to the station.

Firefighters initially believed there could have been two people in the car, according to KIRO. But Renton Fire officials said they learned there had been just one occupant in the vehicle.
Crews performed a search to confirm no one else was in the lake, authorities said.
Renton police said it was unknown how the vehicle came to be in the water.
