Renton Father Asks School District To Help His Daughter Continue Her Education

"It's not going away," says father of alleged rape victim.

Paul Harr, the father of a 16-year-old special needs student at Lindbergh High School, said his daughter's  is not going to go away.

Harr asked the Board of Directors on Wednesday night how the district can help his daughter continue her education.

Since the family filed a police report on Jan. 31, the girl has been unable to return to school.

"She's traumatized," said Harr of his daughter, who spent two weeks at Fairfax Hospital for "acute trauma with psychosis," following the alleged rape that took place in the girls bathroom at Lindbergh High School during finals.

The suspect is a 14-year-old special day student at the same school.

"They share the same classroom for four periods a day," said the girl's mother, Shelley Rose-Harr.

Harr decided to speak at Wednesday night's School Board meeting because, until now, his calls to the school and the district have gone unanswered.

School District Communications Director Randy Matheson and Harr spoke after the meeting about his daughter's need and interest in continuing her education at a public high school. However, the girl is too scared to return to Lindbergh, even after Harr placed a temporary restraining order against the boy.

"It's like the [other] student has more rights than the victim," he told Matheson.

"I'm not trying to be a rebel of the community," Harr said, adding that he just wants his daughter to feel safe and to have access to an education.

Matheson promised to pursue the issue of the girl's continued education.

"I'll have an answer for you tomorrow," he said.
