Renton Indians Opening Baseball Game Tuesday 4pm at Liberty Park

Renton Baseball Booster Club invites residents to enjoy free baseball games in downtown Renton starting 3/13 & support some exciting youth

The crack of the bat. The whiz of pitches being thrown. Player heart-pounding runs around third base to score. Baseball season is here as the Renton Indians varsity team opens their new baseball season at Liberty Park against Clover Park High School on Tuesday, March 13 at 4pm. Local residents can watch some great baseball this spring in the whole field-viewing high grandstand behind home plate. And games are free at Liberty Park in Downtown Renton, next to the Library. Renton plays in the South Puget Sound League.

Renton Indians varsity coaches Chris Fedor and Jason Saisslin are thrilled about the prospects for Renton's varsity and junior varsity (JV) teams. First, a record 40 youth have turned out--the most head coach Fedor has seen in his five years at Renton High School. Second, three other coaches are helping: Ryan Anthony, JV head coach, along with Jason Collette and Derrek Prellwitz. Third, both varsity and JV home games will be played at Liberty Park.

Coach Fedor says the coaching staff has been pleased with the energy level and eagerness of players to learn. “We have a long way to go and I’m confident we will get better each and every week.”

Besides having a competitive team, Fedor hope players will gain increased knowledge, skill set, and passion for the game. “I would also hope for a deep understanding of what it means to be a team.”

The baseball players at Renton come from diverse backgrounds many of whom have not played baseball before high school. “The pride these young men have for their school and city is contagious and I’m hopeful the community can make the time to come see this in action,” adds Fedor.

But Renton Indians baseball program is more than just about winning games. The larger goal is to teach lessons for life. Baseball is a game predicated on failure, where else can you succeed 30% of the time and get to the hall of fame! Coach Fedor notes the key is how do players handle their “failures” and not getting what they want. Pick yourself up and keep grinding on.

The Renton Baseball Booster Club invites the community to support Renton Indians varsity and JV teams. Come to home games. Buy a Renton Indian baseball hat. Support fundraisers during the spring including the team’s GoFundMe Page and upcoming events soon to be announced for needed equipment and training. For example: $15 sponsors Socks & Belts for a player. $30 provides Baseball Pants. $50 provides Cleats. $100 provides a Glove. $200 a Bat. Or $35 for practice balls. $50 for game balls. Some big dollar needs include $1500 for Pitching Machine and $2500 for Batting Cage (two are needed). Donations are eligible for tax deduction.

Now with spring around the corner it’s time to play ball in downtown Renton. Follow the Renton Baseball Booster Club, an independent non profit organization, on Facebook or check out Renton Indians games schedule. Be part of the excitement. See you at Liberty Park on Tues. Mar. 13 @ 4pm or at other games. Renton's JV team will open same day on the road at Clover Park. Go Renton Indians!
