Renton Man Arrested Following High Speed Car Chase

A Renton man in jail on felony arrest warrant, while two robbery suspects went free following a robbery in Maple Valley early Sunday morning. 

The King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter, patrol deputies, and a K-9 Unit worked in concert to locate the 27-year-old Renton man, 21-year-old Renton woman and 37-year-old Everett man.

The incident began shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday after a woman called 911 to report that someone was breaking into her home in the 19200 block of Maxwell Rd SE.

Officials report that the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter was the first to arrive on the scene. Officers recorded video of the suspects as they left the house and fled in a black Lexus driven by the Renton man.

The robbers drove through the woman’s front yard as they left the scene. 

Guardian One pilots kept their sights on the Lexus and directed patrol deputies to the fleeing car on Lake Francis Rd. The driver pulled over for a brief moment before speeding away.

Deputies continued to pursue the vehicle southbound on Maple Valley Hwy and deployed to sets of spike strips on SR 169, one at the intersection with S.E. 216^th  St. and another at S.E. 231 St. 

The spike strips disabled the suspect vehicle, which stopped near S.E. 244 St. and SR169, according to officials; however, the chase did not end there.  

The three suspected burglars occupants got out of the car, and two ran from deputies. The third suspect, a 37 year old Everett man, did not continue to run.

Deputies chased the 21-year-old Renton woman into a wooded area, where she was caught with the help of a K-9 unit.  The 27-year-old Renton man surrendered to deputies after getting boxed in by a patrol car.

The home burglary victim declined to press charges, so the Renton woman and Everett man were released.

The Renton man, who drove the escape car, was arrested for a felony escape warrant. 

Following an investigation, deputies discovered that the victim was familiar with the suspects, which led to her declining to file a report for the burglary.
