A 12-year-old McKnight Middle School student’s self awareness and quick thinking may have saved her from a precarious situation Tuesday morning in the Renton Highlands.Â
The Renton Police Department is investigating a stranger’s alleged attempt to lure the girl into his truck.Â
Just before 8 a.m. on May 22, police responded to the middle school, located in the 1200 block of Edmonds Ave. NE, where the girl reported and recounted suspicious events from earlier that morning.

According to the teen, she’d seen a newer white pickup truck with a canopy and ladder. Inside the truck was a man. The male driver rolled down the truck window, and called out in Spanish to the girl to come over to his truck.Â
Instead of following the man’s directions, the student fled to the school and reported the incident to school staff. The driver is described as a Latino man in his early to mid-20’s with black hair and a goatee, according to a statement from the department.
