RENTON, WA — Renton police officers shot a man near the South Renton Park & Ride while responding to reports of a possibly suicidal person with a gun, the department confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
In a news release, Renton police said officers were called to the 200 block of South 7th Street just before 11:30 a.m. to investigate reports of an armed man in the area. Few details were available on the circumstances of the shooting, but police confirmed officers fired their weapons during the incident and struck the man. He was treated by medics and transported to a nearby hospital.
The officers who fired their weapons were placed on administrative leave, per standard policy, pending the outcome of a full investigation by the Valley Independent Investigations Team. After a lead agency is named in the investigation, further updates on the shooting will be released through that department's public information team.
