Rep. Reichert, Put Party Politics Aside & Vote for Your Community

Reichert needs to vote for our community by prioritizing our health over huge tax breaks for corporations and the wealthiest.

Earlier this year, Representative Dave Reichert listened to the desire and need of his constituents to protect health care by voting against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. But he turned his back on constituents when he voted for the federal budget resolution that is just a backdoor way of attacking the ACA while giving millionaires and corporations tax cuts. We need Representative Reichert to put party politics aside and do what’s best for our district again.

To pay for a massive tax giveaway for millionaires, billionaires and large corporations, the Senate’s Tax Cuts and Jobs bill will raise taxes on 87 million poor and middle-class families. It would cut Medicare by $487 billion and $1 trillion from Medicaid over the next 10 years. This will hurt countless senior, kids, working families, veterans, and people with disabilities in Auburn. Republicans want to repeal important provisions of the ACA in order to pay for a permanent corporate tax reduction of 15%. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that will cause 13 million people to lose their insurance and increasing premiums by 10% for 7 million people.

The bill also threatens to take tax credits away from children in immigrant families, driving many in our communities deeper into poverty. These proposals include provisions taking away the Child Tax Credit (CTC) from children without Social Security Numbers (SSN’s). This could impact as many as 5 million children of taxpaying immigrant families across the nation. The CTC is an effective anti-poverty tool that lifted 2.7 million people out of poverty in 2016.

We urge Representative Reichert to vote for what is effectively the worst piece of legislation we’ve seen in decades. Washingtonians deserve better.
