Traffic Lanes Shift April 15 on Rainier Avenue S

Road crews working on the Rainier Ave. S. Improvement Project will shift the lanes for restriping until April 29. Overall work on the project is expected to be complete by Spring 2014.

On the evening of April 15, crews will restripe lanes on Rainier Avenue S to direct traffic to the west side of the roadway between SW Grady Way and S 7th St (weather permitting). This is the first segment of a two-phased lane shift that will provide space for construction activities on the east side of Rainier Avenue S. Drivers should expect delays and increased congestion while traffic patterns adjust, and should exercise caution when entering or exiting driveways along the corridor.

Lanes will be shifted back on April 29.

Construction on the east side of Rainier Avenue S will look similar to west side construction. Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the work activities, which will include removing asphalt, driveways and sidewalks; installing new water and stormwater infrastructure; installing new street lights, sidewalks, driveways and landscaped areas; and paving. At times, additional lane restrictions may be required but will be timed to avoid peak commute hours. Limited turn restrictions may be required at intersections.
