Two Homes Damaged by Fire

Rags soaked in wood staining solution and dumped in garbage ignited, causing two-home blaze.

A two-alarm fire damaged two homes in the 17500 block of SE 186th Way in Renton over the weekend.

Just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department, Kent Fire Department, Maple Valley Fire Department, King County Medic One, King County Police, and a King County Fire Investigator responded to a residential fire that spread between two structures, according to fire officials.

Renton fire units arrived within 8 minutes of being dispatched and found fire and smoke coming from the attic and exterior of both homes. Firefighters got the blaze under control within 30 minutes of their arrival.

The King County Fire Investigator determined that the fire began in an outside garbage can where rags that had been used for staining wood spontaneously ignited, which caused the fire.

No on was injured in the blaze, and firefighters rescued two dogs and a cat from both homes. None of the animals were injured.
