📰 News we're reading

1. Revive I-5 in Seattle returns this weekend (mynorthwest.com) — Expect major disruptions on northbound I-5 through Seattle this weekend, with all lanes closed between I-90 and NE 45th Street and only express lanes available for trips north of downtown. Ramps into and out of downtown Seattle will shut down Friday night, and two northbound lanes over the Ship Canal Bridge will stay closed until June, likely causing heavy congestion for months.

2. WA doctors weigh-in on CDC child vaccination changes: HealthLink (king5.com) — Seattle-based pediatric infectious disease and UW Medicine experts are warning that new federal guidelines reducing universally recommended childhood vaccines could create confusion for Washington families and providers. They’re particularly concerned about flu, COVID-19, and RSV shots no longer being prioritized, even after a severe flu season. Doctors urge parents to talk with Seattle-area providers as the state decides how to adapt these rules.

3. Port Orchard, WA police seek person of interest in teen's disappearance (fox13seattle.com) — Police in Port Orchard are urgently searching for 15-year-old Ashlynn Hanley, last seen entering a black Buick Enclave tied to a man with past convictions that include a fatal Seattle shooting. Investigators believe locating driver Lavelle Cotton is key to finding her and say he may be in Tacoma or King County. Anyone who spots them or the vehicle is asked to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip.

4. Seattle LGBTQ bookstore frustrated after holiday delivery debacle (fox13seattle.com) — A Fremont-based LGBTQ bookstore in Seattle lost about a quarter of its holiday revenue after UPS mistakenly flagged the shop as temporarily closed, halting dozens of book deliveries. Owners of Charlie’s Queer Books say bare shelves hurt sales and community events, though UPS now says the error is fixed and remaining shipments have been delivered, easing fears for this key LGBTQ community hub.

5. WA leaders call for accountability after 2 people shot by Border Patrol in Portland (fox13seattle.com) — Seattle leaders are reacting after a Border Patrol shooting in Portland and same-day ICE arrests of three people on Aurora Avenue, raising concerns about federal tactics in the city. Mayor Katie Wilson says the arrests were an abuse of power and is working with local officials and immigrant rights groups to explore ways to protect Seattle residents despite limited authority over federal agencies.
