Escaped inmate caught in Spokane after fleeing from stolen vehicle

On 02-14-22 just before 11AM, a vehicle was stolen from the 700 block of E Sprague Ave. About twenty minutes later, the stolen truck was located in Downtown Spokane. Officers observed a suspect run from the stolen vehicle and were able to quickly take the male into custody.

Still dressed in prison attire, 29-year-old Joshua Michael Lanter was quickly identified. Lanter escaped from the Coyote Ridge correctional facility in Connell, WA, less than 12 hours prior. He was serving a sentence for burglary, malicious mischief, and taking a motor vehicle without permission at the time of his escape.

Lanter was booked into Spokane County Jail for the new charge of theft of a motor vehicle as well as the outstanding arrest warrant stemming from his escape.
