• Storage facility a 'total loss' after fire breaks out in University Place (king5.com) — An early-morning fire at Prime Storage in University Place destroyed eight storage units and left one building a total loss, though no injuries were reported. West Pierce Fire and Rescue, with help from Tacoma Fire, battled the blaze for several hours before containing it. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.

• Pierce County Library System announces updated hours with more weekend availability (kiro7.com) — Starting January 18, the University Place Pierce County Library will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The new Pierce County Library System hours aim to make weekend visits easier and free up staff to expand services out in the community.
