  1. Pavement Technology is set to begin a $149,848 asphalt rejuvenation project this week in Parkersburg, aiming to extend the lifespan of recently paved streets in the city's north end. The treatment, recommended for asphalt less than three years old, adds flexibility and durability to the pavement, increasing its lifespan by an average of five to ten years. This year's paving contract covering over seven miles of city streets has just concluded, and those roads will be included in next year's rejuvenation schedule. 2. A Parkersburg Police cruiser was significantly damaged and the officer driving it suffered minor injuries during a high-speed pursuit on Sunday night. The pursuit began when an officer attempted to pull over a dark-colored Chevrolet Equinox for defective equipment. The driver of the Equinox fled at high speeds, reaching up to 100 miles per hour, and the pursuit was eventually terminated after the suspect vehicle was lost in Williamstown. The vehicle was later found unoccupied in Williamstown and the investigation is ongoing. (Subscription: Parkersburg News & Sentinel)
  3. The West Virginia Interstate Fair experienced lower attendance numbers due to a week of continuous rain, following a two-month dry period. The sudden rain coincided with the fair, negatively impacting turnout. The fair had been moved to June from July to avoid extreme heat, but the change did not anticipate the heavy rainfall experienced this year. (WTAP)
