- Wendy Tuck, a representative on Parkersburg City Council, is organizing a cleanup at 1027 Laird Ave. The cleanup aims to help a man who cannot afford a dumpster to clear out trash and debris from his basement. The event will take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, brooms, and buckets. Additionally, the Health Department will be present to offer free blood pressure and glucose level checks. Tuck welcomes any form of assistance, including donations of food and drinks. - West Virginia University at Parkersburg is hosting the Crime Scene Investigations Teen Academy, a summer class for teenagers interested in forensic work. The academy allows students aged 13 to 17 to explore the forensic and investigative aspects of law enforcement. The program aims to provide students with a realistic understanding of crime scene investigation, going beyond what is portrayed in popular media. Activities in the academy include photography, sketching, mapping crime scenes, fingerprinting, footwear impression casting, and blood scene pattern analysis. (WTAP)
- "The Play That Goes Wrong" is set to open at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg on Jun. 16. The play follows the disastrous opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society's production, featuring an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can't play dead, and actors stumbling over everything, including their lines. Director Josh Martin describes it as the funniest show he has ever seen, filled with British comedy that plays on physical humor and puns. The production faced challenges in creating the set and executing special effects, but Martin praises the talented cast and their ability to elevate the show with their individual talents.
