- Linda Burdette-Good, the esteemed gymnastics coach at West Virginia University, has passed away at the age of 74. With a coaching career spanning 37 years and 644 victories, she played a vital role in the program since taking over in 1975. Her accomplishments included numerous national championship appearances, conference titles, and induction into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Burdette-Good's unexpected passing occurred early Tuesday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina. (Metro News)
- Parkersburg resident Laykn Campbell, a freshman at WVU studying broadcast journalism, was crowned Miss West Virginia Teen USA 2023. From Friday, Jun. 2, to Sunday, Jun. 4, the 2023 Miss West Virginia and Miss West Virginia Teen USA pageants were held in Buckhannon, marking the third consecutive year in the same location. - The 27th Annual Kids Golf Classic, organized by United Bank, was held at the country club to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg. Over 100 golfers and 70 local businesses participated in the event, demonstrating the community's generous support. The tournament raised $297,000, which accounts for approximately one-third of the Boys and Girls Club's budget and will be used for essential needs like staffing and transportation. (WTAP News)
