  1. Wood County Schools seeks to hire over 40 aides for first-grade classes in the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. The positions are a result of the Third Grade Success Act mandated by the West Virginia Legislature, which requires a school aide for first-grade classrooms with more than 12 students. Interested applicants can find job listings and complete the initial application online, with the deadline for applications closing on Jun. 22. For inquiries, individuals can contact Carla Rippeto in the Wood County Schools Human Resources Department. (Subscribe: Parkersburg News and Sentinel)
  2. Dudley's Florist, a local business, has been operating since 1863, making it as old as the state of West Virginia itself. Owner Heather Fowler, who took over in 2017, acknowledges the responsibility of preserving a business that has endured challenging times such as the Civil War, two World Wars, recessions, the Great Depression, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The support of the community and dedicated employees has been instrumental in Dudley's Florist's 160-year history, and Fowler expresses gratitude for their contribution to the business's longevity. 3. Wolf Run Road, also known as Wood County Route 21/29, will experience a temporary closure due to a paving project. The closure is scheduled from Wednesday, Jun. 21 to Tuesday, Jun. 27.
