2022’s Top Baby Names In Wisconsin Included Nora, Liam, Oliver, Olivia

Wisconsin's most popular name for baby girls remained the same from 2021 into 2022 while there was a bit of a switch-up for boys.

WISCONSIN — When all the babies born in Wisconsin last year graduate from high school around 2040, you might hear names like Oliver and Olivia repeated often as graduates cross the stage and receive their diplomas.

Taking the top spots in Wisconsin names last year, though, were Henry and Charlotte. Parents across Wisconsin were also eager to give names like Eleanor and Theodore that harken back to an older America, according to the Social Security Administration, which released its top baby names by state analysis this month.

In all, 240 girls born in our state last year were named Charlotte, while 336 boys were named Henry, records show.

Here are the top 10 female names in our state last year:

  2. Olivia.
  3. Evelyn.
  4. Amelia.
  5. Emma.
  6. Nora.
  7. Sophia.
  8. Eleanor.
  9. Harper.
  10. Hazel.

These were the top 10 male names in 2022 in our state:

The name Charlotte for girls rose in popularity in 2022, maintaining its position as the most popular name for girls in our state since last year. Meanwhile, the name Henry unseated 2021's top boy name (Oliver) when it gained a few spots on the list to become the top name for boys in 2022.

Nationally, the top names for babies in 2022 were, for girls:

  3. Charlotte
  4. Amelia
  5. Sophie
  6. Isabella
  7. Ava
  8. Mia
  9. Evelyn
  10. Luna

For boys, the top names were:

  1. Liam
  2. Noah
  3. Oliver
  4. James
  5. Elijah
  6. William
  7. Henry
  8. Lucas
  9. Benjamin
  10. Theodore

The top three names for both girls and boys last year were unchanged from 2021.

The Social Security Administration started releasing the annual list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The agency also notes that popular culture influences baby names.

Over the past 100 years, the male name Michael has held the top spot most often, at 44 times, while the female name Mary has been ranked No. 1 in 35 years over the same period.
