3 Wisconsin Golf Courses Are Among The Nation's 100 Best: Golf Digest

Three of America's greatest golf courses are right here in Wisconsin, according to the magazine Golf Digest.

WISCONSIN — Three golf courses in Wisconsin, including one in Milwaukee County, were recently named among the top 100 across the nation in a new ranking by the magazine Golf Digest.

Six pieces of criteria were weighed for the list: shot options, challenge, layout variety, aesthetics, conditioning and character.

"We are proud to say this year's edition is the most scientific ever—with our 1,800 panelists submitting more than 85,000 evaluations over our 10-year scoring criteria," Derek Duncan and Stephen Hennessey wrote for the publication.

The three Wisconsin courses recognized included:

  • Whistling Straits, Sheboygan, No. 26.
  • Erin Hills Golf Course, Hartford, No. 48.
  • Milwaukee Country Club, River Hills, No. 86.

The publication called Whistling Straits an "imitation Ballybunion" created by Pete Dye "peppering his rugged fairways and windswept greens" with over 1,000 bunkers. The spot has become a "stern test" for top events like the 2021 Ryder Cup, Golf Digest wrote.

Golf Digest recognized Erin Hills for its initial concept to "prove Mother Nature is indeed the best golf architect."

Meanwhile, Milwaukee Country Club was honored for its "surprisingly hilly" course and classic tree-lined design.
