9 Dead In Western WI Crash

Nine people were killed Friday in a crash involving a semitrailer and a van at a western Wisconsin highway intersection, authorities said.

DEWHURST TOWNSHIP, WI — Nine people were killed Friday morning in a crash involving a semitrailer and a van at a western Wisconsin highway intersection, authorities said.

A semitrailer going eastbound on State Highway 95 collided with a van traveling north on County Highway J in Dewhurst Township, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Eight of the nine people in the van, including the van's driver, died at the scene. A ninth van passenger was transported to Marshfield's St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The driver of the semitrailer — the sole occupant of that vehicle — died at the scene.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support at the scene," Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement.

The names of the people killed in the crash will be released to the public after family members are notified, authorities said.

The highways were completely shut down and emergency crews were on the scene of the crash from about 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Hatfield Fire and Rescue Department, the Neillsville Area Ambulance, the Clark County Highway Department, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
