Small Plane Crash At Park In Watertown Was Fatal: Police

Police said a plane that took off from Watertown Municipal Aircraft crashed Wednesday morning at a park in the city.

WATERTOWN, WI — Authorities have confirmed there was a fatality when a small plane crashed near Brandt Quirk Park in Watertown Wednesday morning.

Police and firefighters were called around 9 a.m. to the 800 block of Carriage Hill Drive where small fires were found around the crash site, according to a news release. In a tweet, the National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating a crash involving a Mooney M20R, a type of piston-power propeller aircraft.

Police said the plane had taken off from Watertown Municipal Airport. Emergency crews confirmed the fatality but did not identify who was dead citing pending family notification.

The NTSB was joined by the Federal Aviation Administration at the crash scene on Wednesday and will be leading the investigation.

Watertown is located about 27 miles northwest of Waukesha and about 42 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
