Turkey Drive Underway in Milwaukee County
The We Care Crew is asking for donations to purchase turkeys or cold-weather items for families in need.
MILWAUKEE COUNTY,WI— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Manager, Dee McCollum had a vision and a dream to give back to families in need for the holidays. So nine years ago, Dee bought 10 baskets filled with holiday foods and other items using her own money. Mary Nelson from Aurora Healthcare found out about her efforts and decided to join Dee in her mission by donating 20 baskets the second year and the following year 40 baskets.
Since the start of what is now called the “Make A Family Smile Turkey Drive,” nine years ago, the King Center has served more than 4,000 families
On Tuesday, November 24 the "We Care Crew" will host a turkey drive at the King Community Center to provide Thanksgiving meals and winter resources to families. The goal this year is serving 2,000 families. The deadline to donate is Friday, November 9th

The We Care Crew is asking for donations to purchase turkeys for families in need this Thanksgiving. They are also accepting donations of new warm things (hats, mittens, gloves, scarves) to keep families warm this winter.
These items will be given away at a pre-Thanksgiving event to be held at the King Community Center on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

To support this effort they hope to collect:
- 2,000 hats (various youth and young-adult sizes)
- 2,000 pairs of gloves or mittens (various youth and young-adult sizes)
- 2,000 pairs of warm socks (various youth and young-adult sizes)
- 2,000 winter scarves
