Data Breach Of Green Bay Packers Exposes Fans' Personal Information

The Green Bay Packers franchise is alerting fans and customers about a data breach last fall affecting the pro shop.

GREEN BAY, WI — The Green Bay Packers franchise is alerting fans and customers about a data breach last fall affecting the pro shop website which may have exposed customer information.

According to a statement from the franchise, the breach was caused by malicious code inserted by a third-party threat actor.

The Packers identified the issue on Oct. 23, after being alerted to the presence of the malicious code on the checkout page.

The franchise disabled payment and checkout functionalities on the website and enlisted outside cybersecurity experts to investigate and address the issue.

On Dec. 20, investigators concluded that the malicious code may have allowed unauthorized access to customer information entered during transactions using certain payment methods in September and October:

"Based on the results of the forensic investigation, on December 20, 2024, we discovered that the malicious code may have allowed an unauthorized third party to view or acquire certain customer information entered at the checkout that used a limited set of payment options on the Pro Shop website between September 23 and 24, 2024, and October 3 and 23, 2024."

The potentially compromised information includes customers' names, billing and shipping addresses, email addresses, credit card types, numbers, expiration dates, and verification codes.

Transactions made using gift cards, Pro Shop website accounts, PayPal, or Amazon Pay were not affected, according to the franchise.

The Packers said they have worked with their website vendor to remove the malicious code, enhance security protocols, and ensure there are no remaining vulnerabilities.

The franchise is offering affected customers complimentary access to 36 months of credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through Experian.
