WISCONSIN — A special election for Wisconsin's 8th District Senate seat — which represents portions of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties — will be held alongside the April 4 election in the new year after incumbent Republican Alberta Darling's retirement.

Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, announced the order for the special election on Friday, the first day for candidates to circulate nomination papers. If a primary becomes needed it will occur on Feb. 21. The election coincides with the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court.

“Senator Darling has earned the respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle because she’s a diligent leader who’s always carried herself with poise, class, and grace. I’ve always appreciated her thoughtfulness in our conversations over the years,” said Gov. Evers in a news release. “Thank you for your service, Sen. Darling. Kathy and I wish you all the best in your retirement.”
