Bagpipe Tribute To Fallen Police Planned At These WI Departments

Saturday will mark the return of the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums "Midnight Piper" tribute to fallen law enforcement.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Several police departments across Wisconsin will be hosting a lone bagpiper on Saturday night to play "Amazing Grace" as a tribute to fallen law enforcement.

The bagpipers will play at 11:55 p.m. in honor of fallen officers. This year's tradition, which began in 2020, comes amid a particularly deadly year for Wisconsin police officers. In early May, a 29-year-old sheriff deputy was killed in St. Croix County. About a month prior, two other police officers were killed during a traffic stop in Barron County, and in February, a police officer was killed in Milwaukee.

The lone pipers are set to play at several police stations and memorials, according to the organization's website. The band was formed to play Highland bagpipes and drums for funerals and other memorial ceremonies, according to its website. Its original members comprised active and retired police officers and firefighters.
