Man Who Shot Off-Duty Milwaukee Detective In Custody: Police

MILWAUKEE, WI — Police arrested a man accused of shooting an off-duty Milwaukee police detective during a botched robbery, Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman announced Tuesday.

Keasean Ellis-Brown, 18, is accused of shooting Milwaukee police detective Andrew Wilkiewicz, 37, after an attempted carjacking and robbery.

Negotiations went on for several hours and Ellis-Brown was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. without incident, Norman said at a news conference.

Police were seen taking a man into custody after officers from a house in the city's northwest side, according to multiple reports.

The street at N. 9th Street and W. Chambers street was taped off and dozens of police cars, including an armored car, were seen parked up nearby, CBS 58 reported.

Members of the police Tactical Enforcement Unit and the Crisis Negotiators Unit were on the scene, the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement.

The 18-year-old, along with Timonte Karroll Robinson, 17, and Dionta'e Hayes, 18, were each given six charges, including being party to a crime when trying to steal a car, reckless endangerment and fleeing police.

The three are accused of trying to rob a delivery driver which led up to Wilkiewicz's shooting on Jan. 13.

In November 2021, Ellis-Brown posted $1,000 bond after being charged with fleeing police in a car, recklessly endangering safety and resisting a police officer.
