Driver In Fatal I-43 Median Crash Identified: Milwaukee Sheriff
Investigators identified a man whose car slammed into the median on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee, officials said.
MILWAUKEE, WI — The driver involved in a fatal single-car crash that closed down one side of Interstate 43 in Milwaukee was identified, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.
Michael J. Dixon, 62, died after his car hit the median wall on Interstate 94 near S. 27th Street, sheriff's office spokesperson James Burnett told Patch.
The sheriff's office got multiple 911 calls around 11 p.m. that a car had hit a median wall westbound on I-94, Burnett said. Deputies and the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived and tried to save the driver's life, but Dixon was pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m.

Evidence showed Dixon entered the on ramp from S. 27th Street to go west on I-43 before losing control and skidding along the right concrete barrier wall of the ramp, Burnett said. The man's car ricocheted off the outer wall to the left, rolled down a grassy embankment and up the other side of a ditch before crossing several lanes of traffic and hitting a wall.
Sheriffs had to close the westbound section of I-43 around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Dixon's car crossed all lanes of the highway before hitting the median wall.
