Labor And Delivery Unit At St. Francis Ascension To Close: Report

ST. FRANCIS, WI — The labor and delivery unit at Ascension's hospital in St. Francis is set to discharge its final patient on Friday and close, leaving much of Milwaukee's south side having to travel to different hospitals to deliver babies, according to a report by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The St. Francis location will still offer prenatal and postpartum plus gynecologic care, the hospital system told the Journal Sentinel. News of the closure sparked a protest by the hospital's labor on Tuesday with some members of the Milwaukee Common Council also raising concerns, the newspaper reported.
