Man, 27, Dies In Milwaukee Police Custody

MILWAUKEE, WI — A 27-year-old man died in police custody after a "medical emergency" in Milwaukee Wednesday, the Milwaukee Police Department said.

No cause of death was reported for the man, who was not identified.

The man was arrested in connection with a drug investigation, police said.

Two police officers were placed on administrative duty, police said in a statement.

The man was arrested in the 1600 block of S. Cesar Chavez Drive around 8 p.m. Officers took him to a hospital where doctors medically cleared him, police said.

After being cleared by the hospital, the man had another emergency at the Milwaukee Police Department's District 2 station and was taken to the hospital again. He was pronounced dead when he arrived, police said.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and the West Allis Police Department were investigating the death, police said.

When a person dies in the custody of Milwaukee police, an outside agency such as the West Allis Police Department must investigate, according to Milwaukee police.
