Man Arrested After Milwaukee Fire Displaces Over 100 People

Milwaukee police arrested a man connected to an apartment fire that put 139 people on the street on Sunday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee police arrested a 19-year-old man on Sunday after an apartment fire in the west of the city put more than 100 people on the street.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but the Milwaukee Police Department arrested the unnamed man in connection with the fire. Police said 139 people were displaced after the apartment fire on the 3100 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue.

The man will be referred the Milwaukee County District Attorney Office for criminal charges, police said in a statement. Police said the fire was set on purpose.

People were able to find a place to sleep at the American Red Cross of Wisconsin's shelter at Alverno College. The organization said around 20 residents arrived at the shelter on Monday.
