Milwaukee Man Gets Federal Prison After Carjacking, Gunpoint Robbery
Prosecutors said a Milwaukee man lured someone into an apartment in 2022 before stealing car keys, jewelry and more at gunpoint.
MILWAUKEE, WI — A Milwaukee man was sentenced to ten years in federal prison last week after prosecutors said he lured someone into an apartment building to steal jewelry, car keys and more at gunpoint in 2022.
Jerome O. Smith, 27, was sentenced Wednesday; Just over a year after the robbery where he fled in the victim's car, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Gregory Haandstad. Smith was charged and later pleaded guilty to one count of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and one count of carjacking, prosecutors said.
The U.S. District Court Judge Brett Ludwig commented on Smith's crime, calling it among the most serious crimes prosecuted federally, and noting the violent nature and trauma inflicted on the victim, the U.S. attorney release said.
