See Which Wisconsin Restaurants Closed In Spring 2022

The cost of meat, health code violations and rude customers were some factors that closed several restaurants in Wisconsin.

WISCONSIN — Wisconsin restaurants have had a turbulent last two years, but some optimism has shown despite struggles during the coronavirus pandemic.

Three chefs, all with Milwaukee restaurants, were named finalists in the James Beard Foundation’s 2022 Restaurant and Chef Awards. The employment sector that includes Wisconsin bars and restaurants grew back by 97 percent since February 2020, the Wisconsin Examiner reported.

However, not all Wisconsin restaurants made it in 2022. Here are some of the restaurants that shuttered for good this spring.

Skinny Vic’s Diner and Coffee Shop in West Bend closed for the last time on May 13 after suffering mistreatment from customers, CBS 58 reported.

“We are all working very hard to serve you – please be kind and if you must – reach out to the owner!” owner Vicky Lehnerz said in a Facebook post. “My staff doesn’t deserve to be treated with such disrespect.”

Jackson Grill in Milwaukee’s south side closed in early March for repairs, and then announced it would remain closed on March 28, the owners said in a Facebook post.

High prices on meat, energy prices and a shortage of staff drove the business to close its doors, owner Heidi Schmidt said in a statement.

Hurts Donut Company, outside of Madison, closed after getting seven health code violations in March, The Wisconsin State Journal reported.

The violations were immediately corrected, but a health inspector had the shop throw away creams that weren’t date marked, improperly date marked or held past seven days, The Wisconsin State Journal reported.
