Sheriff Arrests 20 Drunken Drivers Over Weekend: Report

Of the 20 who were arrested, seven were picked up for at least the second time, Sheriff's officials said.

MILWAUKE, WI β€” The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says it's arrested 20 people for drunken driving over the weekend, including one person for their fourth such offense.

This weekend, deputies made 20 drunken driving arrests. A breakdown of those 20 arrests are as follows:

First Offense: 13
Second: 5
Third: 1
Fourth: 1

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, β€œevery day, almost 30 people in the United States, die in drunk driving crashes. Alcohol is a substance that reduces the function of the brain. It impairs thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. All of these abilities are essential and critical in operating a vehicle safely.”

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is encouraging members of the public to avoid drinking and driving this holiday season. "Plan ahead and choose a designated driver or an alternative mode of transportation to get home safely," Sheriff's officials said in a statement.
