Two Shooting Incidents Shut Down I-43 Tuesday: Sheriff

Two reports of gunshots on I-43 in the Milwaukee area caused two separate freeway closures.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Two reports of gunshots on I-43 in the Milwaukee area caused two separate freeway closures on Tuesday, Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials said. There were no injuries reported at either shooting incident.

First Shooting

All southbound lanes of I-43 in Milwaukee were closed by Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies after a shooting incident on the interstate, officials said Tuesday morning. The shooting incident was reported just after 10:40 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities said they have yet to learn of any injuries as a result of the shooting. By noon, the interstate was back open.

Second Shooting

All northbound lanes of I-43 were closed near National Ave. just after 3 p.m. Tuesday after another report of gunshots fired in the area.

Sheriff's officials once again diverted traffic off the freeway so investigators could sweep the area for evidence. By 5 p.m. the freeway was back open.
