Skateboard And 'Wheel Park' Planned For Bay View Continues Fundraising

The planners of a new "wheel park" in Milwaukee's Bay View said the next fundraiser to bridge a $75K gap is National Go Skateboarding Day.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A new park for skateboarders and wheel-riders of all kinds is in the works for Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood, but organizers said they still need to raise $75,000 to begin construction.

The plans for the new "wheel park" at Beulah Brinton Playfield, 2555 South Bay Street, come from the non-profit Bay View Neighborhood Association and Milwaukee Recreation. A news release from the neighborhood association on Thursday said wheel parks are designed to be a fun and safe spot for wheel riders of all ages and skill levels.

The new wheel park planned for Bay View would feature a variety of elements alongside improvements to existing basketball courts, the news release said. Plans for the park have been in the work for over a decade, according to the release.

“We are thrilled to finally have a location for this much needed recreation activity in our
neighborhood,” said Nichole Williams, wheel park advocate, and former BVNA
President in the release. “This is a great place for our young people to skate, meet new people, and
have fun.”

To bridge the $75,000 gap before construction can begin, the Bay View Neighborhood Association said it is planning a fundraiser on National Go Skateboarding Day, June 21. More information about the park and fundraiser can be found on the neighborhood association's website.

“The Bay View Neighborhood Association is to be commended for the fundraising
done to date and staying the course to bring this project to reality,” said Milwaukee Recreation Director Lynn Greb in the release. “The plan to bring a wheel park to the Beulah
Brinton Playfield was also the catalyst for Milwaukee Recreation to initiate upgrades to
the basketball courts.”
