Thick, Fluffy Snow Over Southeast WI: When Will It End?

Wet, slushy snow is affecting the morning commute. Snow could possibly turn back into rain throughout the day, forecasters said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Had enough of the winter weather already? Wisconsinites awoke to the last day of March with rain turning to snow overnight, leaving slushy, slippery conditions on the morning commute, the National Weather Service reported.

Wet, slushy snow is expected on roads across southeast Wisconsin on Thursday, forecasters said. Snowfall up to a half-inch per hour are possible in the Milwaukee area and snow will get thicker and heavier further north.

A hazardous weather outlook was given for several counties, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine and Kenosha counties, forecasters said. Slush and blinding snowfall can cause hazardous driving conditions.

The snow in Milwaukee will possibly taper off around noon, according to the NWS' hourly precipitation forecast. Waukesha further inland could see up to two inches of snow before it stops.

Thursday: Snow before 9 a.m., then rain and snow. High near 38. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tonight: A slight chance of rain and snow before 10 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Northwest wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Friday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 32. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday: Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. South wind around 5 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
