After an absolutely wild 80-degree late-October Tuesday, Wisconsin residents are in for a bone-chilling surprise just in time for Halloween.

MILWAUKEE — After an absolutely wild 80-degree late-October Tuesday, Wisconsin residents are in for a bone-chilling surprise just in time for Halloween.

By Thursday, temperatures are expected to plunge into the mid-30s, making for a drastic drop that will have trick-or-treaters swapping out costumes for layers to ward off the Halloween chill.

With the state’s weather doing a spooky switch, families may be scrambling to bundle up for a frostier night of frights.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Low around 62. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10am, then a chance of showers between 10am and 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 66 by 10am, then falling to around 54 during the remainder of the day. Windy, with a south wind 15 to 25 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 51. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.
