Construction Begins On Mill Road Bridge Over Oak Creek

Work has begun on the Mill Road bridge near Oak Creek Parkway in South Milwaukee with detours expected to last into the fall.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WI — Work was scheduled to begin Monday on the Mill Road bridge between Milwaukee Avenue and Oak Creek Parkway in South Milwaukee, according to a project overview from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The bridge will be closed to traffic, including vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians, and you can expect detours until the major parts of construction and repairs are completed, according to WisDOT. The work is expected to last into the fall of 2022.

The rehabilitation work will include grading, paving, pavement marking, repainting rails, slope repair, replacing limestone masonry, plus curb and gutter work.

The detour around the bridge will be Milwaukee Avenue, to Chicago Avenue, to Hawthorne Avenue or Oak Creek Parkway.
