Crash Downs Powerlines On Drexel Avenue, Closes Road For Hours

The fire department said multiple power poles were downed near 10th and Drexel. Westbound Drexel was closed, while eastbound remained open.

OAK CREEK, WI — A crash downed multiple powerlines near Drexel Avenue and 10th Street in Oak Creek around 1 p.m. Thursday, causing road closures in the area for hours.

The crash happened on 1000 West Drexel Avenue. It brought power poles into the roadway, blocking westbound traffic on Drexel Avenue between 6th Street and 13th Street, according to a Facebook post from the Oak Creek Police Department. Access to South Wildwood Drive off Drexel was also restricted, the post said.

A vehicle towing a trailer lost control and crashed, police told WISN12 News.

We Energies’ online outage tracker reported there were about 1400 customers without power around 1:30 p.m. By around 3 p.m., about 350 customers were without power in the area of the accident. By about 6 p.m., most of the outages appeared to be cleared, the online tracker showed.

We Energies workers could be seen on Drexel Avenue cleaning up the mess the crash created. The closures lingered into the evening.
